Everything you need to know about your battery
In modern cars, not just electric cars, the battery is one of the most important components.
In electric or hybrid cars, the battery is the heart and at the same time one of the most expensive components.
For this reason, regardless of the brand, we carefully and professionally check the battery in all relevant parameters. The service life of a battery is usually several years. But even under ideal conditions, sooner or later the time comes when the battery needs to be replaced.
Scope of services:
- State of Health (SoH) analysis and State of Charge (SoC) analysis;
- Analysis of residual capacity, charging cycles, cell condition and temperature behavior;
- Evaluation based on OBD or manufacturer-specific measured values (depending on the vehicle type);
- Assessment of charging behaviour and energy efficiency;
- Issuance of a battery certificate for documentation (e.g. when selling a vehicle).
Before buying a battery, I highly recommend paying attention to several important features. These affect various aspects of their performance and lifespan:
- Capacity – indicates how much energy the battery can store (measured in ampere-hours, Ah);
- Voltage – indicates the battery charge level. It is measured with a voltmeter at a temperature of +18 °C and without load;
- Cold start current – describes the current supplied by the battery in the first 10 seconds of engine start at a temperature of −18 °C. The voltage must remain above 7.5 V;
- Self-discharge – indicates how quickly the battery loses charge if it is not used for a long time;
- Internal resistance – an important parameter for evaluating the performance of the battery under load. Special battery testers or multimeters with resistance measurement function are used for measurement.
Before buying a new battery, the dimensions, weight, expected lifespan and storage conditions should also be considered.
